Martensitic transformations and mobility of twin boundaries in Ni2MnGa alloys studied by using internal friction
نویسندگان
چکیده
Internal friction (IF) was measured in two non-stoichiometric Ni2MnGa alloys. Several IF peaks attributed to some restructuring of the martensitic lattice were observed below Ms. From the strain dependence of IF, the activation enthalpy for movement of twin boundaries between martensitic domains was estimated to be equal to 0.02–0.04 eV. 2003 Acta Materialia Inc. Damping Properties of Shape Memory Alloys During Phase Transformation
A high damping capacity is considered as one of the important functional properties of shape memory alloys. Those properties are related to a thermoelastic martensitic transformation. As a consequence of this transformation, the internal friction or damping can be investigated for three different states: 1. during thermal transformation cycling, 2. during martensite induced strain cycling at co...
متن کاملModulated Martensite: Why it forms and why it deforms easily
Diffusionless phase transitions are at the core of the multifunctionality of (magnetic) shape memory alloys, ferroelectrics and multiferroics. Giant strain effects under external fields are obtained in low symmetric modulated martensitic phases. We outline the origin of modulated phases, their connection with tetragonal martensite and consequences for their functional properties by analysing th...
متن کاملDamping Characteristics of Inherent and Intrinsic Internal Friction of Cu-Zn-Al Shape Memory Alloys
Damping properties of the inherent and intrinsic internal friction peaks (IFPT + IFI) of Cu-xZn-11Al (x = 7.0, 7.5, 8.0, 8.5, and 9.0 wt. %) shape memory alloys (SMAs) were investigated by using dynamic mechanical analysis. The Cu-7.5Zn-11Al, Cu-8.0Zn-11Al, and Cu-8.5Zn-11Al SMAs with (IFPT + IFI)β3(L21)→γ′ 3(2H) peaks exhibit higher damping capacity than the Cu-7.0Zn-11Al SMA with a (IFPT + IF...
متن کاملThe Contribution of Dislocation - Impurities Interaction to Kinetics of Martensitic Transformation of Quenched f.c.c. Fe-Ni-Mo Alloys
The kinetics of martensitic transformation in austenitic Fe-Ni-Mo alloys depends on the carbon content. Analysis of carbon redistribution between f.c.c. solid solution and dislocation has been carried out with the help of internal friction (amplitude and temperature effects) study and stress relaxation tests. The martensitic transformation was proved by magnetic induction and thermal differenti...
متن کاملMobility of Interphase Boundaries and Hysteresis of Martensitic Transformation in Alloys
A phenomenological description of martensitic transformation is proposed on the basis of such parameters as: a degree of lattice coherency between austenite and martensite phases, mobility of interphase boundaries, elastic energy stored during martensitic transformation and degree of its relaxation. Son),: experimental results confirming the proposed ideas are presented.
